Funchal, Madeira

Madeira is known for having a lot of events around the island in August, if you are in Madeira in August I suggest googling what events are happening, each event lasts around 2 to 3 night’s so even if you missed one day you still got another day or 2 to still catch it. As we planned on going to the Porto Cruz village part at night we needed to waste some time before hand, so our third stop of day 2 was spent in Funchal.

The Mercado dos Lavradores is a popular touristic spot. The Mercado dos Lavradores is a fruit, vegetable, flower and fish market in Funchal, the building was designed by Edmundo Tavares and opened on 24 November 1940. The market is open from 7am-8pm everyday and only close on Sundays, great place to get fresh food from.

There is so much to see in Funchal, it may look like a small island but there is so many spots specially hidden ones that you find when walking around. We spent our afternoon walking around Funchal as you do if you are on holiday, then we spent the whole night in Porto Cruz enjoying the fireworks and a lot of Poncha (Portuguese alcoholic drink).
