Pico Ruivo Mountain Hike, Madeira

On day 4 of Madeira, we wasn’t sure what we wanted to do. My boyfriend came up with the plan to head over to Pico Ruivo just to see the view.

The Pico Ruivo is the highest point on the mountainous Madeira and standing at 1,862m above sea level the summit provides spectacular views over the entire island. The climb to the top of Pico Ruivo provides for a challenging hike and there are two excellent routes of varying degrees of difficulty.

We wasn’t 100% prepared for this hike, mainly because we’ve never been and we didn’t know how long it will take to get to the viewing point. We decided to walk as much as we could until we was tired enough to just walk back down and I honestly can’t even tell you if we was half way or not as from what I’ve heard the walk can take hour and half too much longer.

We still manage to see amazing views of the mountains and island. Next time I will do the whole walk and maybe record it on a GoPro.

While driving down we saw a viewing point where people tend to have picnics at and managed to get another great view as well, which you can see from the last 2 photos.
